“Once, for all the darkling sea,
You your voices raised how clearly,
Striking in when tempest sung;
Hoisting up the storm-sail cheerly,
Life is storm–let storm! you rung.”
– excerpt by Herman Melville
The time is finally here! It took a long time for me to find just the right kyanites for these necklaces and earrings, but I have finally finished the last designs for the Darkling Sea Collection: necklaces and earrings for complete sets with the rings.
Goodness, how I love the variations of kyanite. Some are clear and bright, warm and inviting, like a shining summer day at the ocean. And others are deep and broody, full of flecks and crackles like half-frozen sea water. I don’t think I could choose a favorite if I tried.
Necklaces, earrings, and rings for exploring ocean coves still sparkling with sea ice. For the deep Atlantic, all saturated blues and shadows. For mermaids and wave-walkers, ocean explorers with near frozen brine flowing through their veins.
I just want to say, it makes my heart sing knowing there are so many ocean souls out there who fell in love with these designs. What a gift knowing there are so many kindreds out there. My heart is made of sea salt as well.
Darkling Sea Necklaces
Measures about 1″ from the top of
the bail to the bottom of the pendant.
Suspended from a chain adjustable between 17″ – 20″.
Price: $155 per necklace
This necklace is made from a natural, teal kyanite gemstone stone set in a straight bezel. Accenting the stone is a single sterling silver pebble, like a beach stone smooth and shining from a recent wave.
The backs have been textured to look similar to rippling waves on the sea, irregular and uniform at the same time.
And a simple oval window is sawn from the back so when you hold it up to the light the sun can set the stone afire.
The necklaces are given a high polish so they would look as though they were dipped in water.
And in photographing these necklaces in full sunshine, I discovered that the light positively bounces off the backs of the pendants. Sunshine splays from the textured surface, speckling your neck and clothing, just like light reflecting from the tops of waves.
Darkling Sea Earrings
Suspended from sterling silver earwires.
Measure about 1″ from the top of
the earwire to the bottom of the earring.
Price: $125 per pair
These earrings are made to match the necklaces, with round teal kyanites gemstone stones set in a straight bezels.
Accenting the stones are a single sterling silver pebbles suspended at the bottom.
A simple circular window is on the backs, and since they are suspended below the ears, light will be able to shine through and set the stones ablaze.
Polished silver and shining stone, what better combination?!
Darkling Sea Rings
Choose your ring size from US 4 – 12
Oval stone size: 11-12mm from top to bottom
Set atop a textured 4mm rectangle band
Fits true to size
Price: $109 per ring
Also, since I got a handful of requests for rings for those who missed out last time, I will also be offering a very small number of preorders for Made to Order rings, which you will be able to purchase with a specific ring size.
This ring is made from a natural, teal kyanite gemstone stone set in a straight bezel.
Accenting the stone are two little sterling silver pebbles, like beach stones smooth and shining from a recent wave. Like the backs of the necklaces, the bands have been textured to look similar to rippling waves on the sea, irregular and uniform at the same time. High polished finish.
I only made a handful of necklaces and earrings that will be ready to ship, each with their own listing.
However, in addition to the rings, I will have also have a listing for “Made to Order” necklaces and earrings with randomly selected kyanites, with about an 8-10 week turnaround.
Or quicker, since I will be working on them in the order of purchase.
I will also be working on all the Made to Order pieces while also working a few other upcoming collections I have planned, and sending off orders in the order in which they are placed.
Keep in mind that for all the preorders, you wont be able to choose specific kyanite gemstone. Since I might have quite a lot of smithing ahead of me outside of already planned collections, randomly selecting stones will make the preorder method more manageable for me.
But all the kyanite gemstones that I have on hand for the preorders look very similar to their sample photos, and I always choose the prettiest stones from my collection for you.
Also remember that these kyanites have an icy, crackly depth to them, which means that some have some surface fissures, pits, and crackles where the inner textures touch the surface. These stones are very organic and natural.
And there you have it! A few dozen teal kyanite pieces, like frozen droplets of my beloved northern Atlantic, will land in the new shop this Sunday at ‼️4pm EST‼️
(Take double note of the new time! I have gotten many requests for some offerings to have earlier release times to accommodate those in other time zones. So I thought I would give 4pm EST a whirl. Most collections will still be 7pm EST since thats what most people seem to prefer, but I am going to try to do earlier ones now and again.)
Everything will alight in the SHOPIFY shop at 4pm EST
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 18TH.
Click here for a direct link to where they will appear.
And remember, refresh your page often once the clock strikes 4:00 EST, until they all appear.
If you have been waiting for this offering, I hope you catch the very perfect piece!
