Wherein an Introduction Is in Order

Greetings from the bench!

I’ve thought for a long time whether or not I should create a more personal space on the internet for my work, and had pushed against the notion for just as long. The hermit in me has been very resistant to starting a blog that features my pictures and words for fear of losing something. But as I’ve grown in my craft and have built an online presence through both of my shops (Shop #1, Shop #2) and Instagram, I came to understand that creating this space is important. Many wonderful people have reached out to me online wanting to connect. Some want to know where I get my ideas, many want to share how my pieces connect to them personally, and others want to just send some love.

What makes my work special is that every piece I create has a story. It begins with a spark of inspiration, a whisper from the muses, a half-formed dream quickly sketched in my nightstand notebook before the idea slips away. And then comes the circling of the idea. I root around in my supply cabinet, places gemstones on my fingers to imagine how they will look, make sketches of the piece from different angles, and imagine the kind of person to whom it will eventually travel. Will they be fierce and unfettered? Will they be delicate with a flare for the romantic? Will my piece be tucked away in a jewelry box, only to be taken out on special occasions or when curious little hands want to imagine a time when they too can be glamorously bedecked? Or will my piece become part of a person’s unique identity by being worn every day for many years, eventually becoming dinged and scratched, containing its wearers history in its surface?

And then comes the most satisfying part, fabrication. Each piece requires many hours to build from sheet metal and wire, the mixing of gemstone, metal, and fire. It is pure alchemy. During fabrication there is also whispered encouragement for the solder to flow true, foot stamping frustration when I melt a piece in the last stages of creation, and pure elation when it all works out.

And these are the stories that I plan to share with you. Despite my anxiety about putting the indelible impression of my life on the internet and losing some of my privacy, it is worth being able to show you glimpses into the creative process, debut collections as a whole with an explanation of their inspiration, and allow my craft to be more than a just an impersonal conduit through which products get stamped out.

So welcome and may you get something out of this! Because it is for you that I do this, friends.

๐ŸŒŠ As I package up orders from my recent sale, I ๐ŸŒŠ As I package up orders from my recent sale, I see so many familiar names. Names that have passed through my hands dozens of times before, names like a song I could sing in my sleep.

๐ŸŒŠ So many of you have collected my work for years and have curated your own collections of pieces that are symbolic and unique to you.

๐ŸŒŠ And then there are the new names, cherished people who have recently found my work and chose send love and energy and money out into the ether, with trust that they will have a beautiful object in hand soon.

๐ŸŒŠ You are all such generous souls who show up for me: when the world looks grim and creation is a solace, when my bench is a whirlwind and I scarcely have time for tea, when I am unsure of a collection and who it will speak to.

๐ŸŒŠ When you buy the work of an artisan craftsman, small business, or fine artist, you are holding up a life above choppy, uncertain waters.

๐ŸŒŠ Which with all the gas-guzzling, indestructible tankers plowing through the sea all around us, is no small feat on your part.

๐ŸŒŠ And I know I say it a lot, but I am endlessly grateful for you, and am in awe of all the hands holding me out of the water. A thousand thanks from my heart to yours.

If you have a wonderful, distracting book recommendation, send it my way! I have loved reading all your recs. "I Called Him Necktie" was a particular favorite.

๐Ÿ’ซ Also, a quick reminder, the sale in the main shop ends tomorrow, the discount shows up automatically in tour cart. And then over the weekend I will shut down the shop and start moving things to Etsy at their regular prices.)

Wisps of gray smoke and layered crackled stone, like any rough quartz plucked from a riverbed. But then you tilt them just the right way, and they conjure up the most brilliant flash and swirl of color.

With a cup of midnight oil and equal parts autumn With a cup of midnight oil and equal parts autumn air drifting through the window, I am nearly ready to photograph these Memento Mori pieces for you!

Thank you to everyone who chimed in on the poll in my stories, it looks like it is nearly equal requests for necklaces and earrings.

I won't be able to make enough for everyone who voted in the poll, but I have the gemstones for about 10 necklaces and 8 pairs of earrings.

Keep an eye out for a preview on the blog/newsletter! I think this one will be a quick one without too much lead up, in hopes of getting these spooky little lovelies to you as soon as possible.

๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’€ Call for ring sizes, all you ghostly gals ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’€ Call for ring sizes, all you ghostly gals and October souls! ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ’™

This year's only Nocturne design will be the petite version of the Memento Mori ring.

Crackling blue and soft green labradorite coffin gemstones set amidst a twining vine border and a single flower laid at the base.

Inside the ring band are the Latin words
"Memento Mori" which translates roughly to "remembrance of death" or "remember you must die." These serve are encouragement to not wast a moment of your life.

They are set atop a narrow rectangle band that fit true to size.

If you'd like there to be a ring in your size during the release, call out your size below and I will take a tally!

Hoping to ship before the end of the month, which with autumn vigor and jugs of cider, I should be able to accomplish. ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ’™โšฐ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ป๐ŸŽƒ
